The local area
Swansea is a city with a long and rich history and was an important hub during the Industrial Revolution. The modern city now has some great attractions such as the historic Swansea Castle and the city is renowned for its performing arts scene, while there is huge redevelopment being undertaken across the city centre.
The city’s main train station is on Swansea High Street, and you can get to Cardiff Central in around 50 minutes. The journey will take a little longer by road, with the M4 linking the two cities which are approximately 40 miles apart. Bypass Cardiff on the M4 and the motorway provides easy access to Newport, Bristol, Reading and London.
For families with children, there are plenty of schools in the area to choose from. Options for younger children include Pennard Primary School, Sketty Primary School and St. Thomas Primary School. Olchfa School is Swansea’s largest comprehensive school, while Bishop Gore School and Bishop Vaughan Catholic School are among the other secondary choices. Swansea University looks after those in need of higher education facilities.
