The local area

Lying on the northern bank of the River Mersey, Widnes town became a major centre of the chemical industry in the mid-19th century, and continues this manufacturing to this day. The town benefits from its close proximity to Liverpool, while the pretty Cheshire countryside and city of Manchester are also nearby.

There are some excellent transport links in place for those looking to commute to Liverpool, with trains to the city’s Lime Street station taking around half an hour. It will take a similar amount of time to reach Manchester Piccadilly station. The M62 motorway passes just to the north of Widnes, linking Liverpool in the west to Manchester and Leeds in the east. The town is ideally located for Liverpool John Lennon Airport, which lies around 7 miles away, while Manchester Airport is less than 25 miles from Widnes.

There are some excellent schools in the area for families with children to take into consideration, including the Holy Family Catholic Primary School, St Bede’s Junior School and Lunts Heath Primary on Wedgwood Drive for younger children. Secondary options include Wade Deacon High, the Bankfield School and Ashley School on Cawfield Avenue.
