The local area
Found in North West England on the banks of the River Dee, Chester is an attractive city that serves up a rich heritage. The city centre is punctuated by attractive Tudor buildings and reminders of the city’s Roman past. Sandstone walls surround the centre, and are a real feature of Chester, along with the amphitheatre that lies just outside the walls. The Grosvenor Museum is worth a visit and includes an art gallery, while modern amenities are not in short supply thanks to the popular shopping scene, and plentiful bars and restaurants.
Chester possesses an excellent location that offers easy access to Liverpool, Manchester and North Wales and further down to Wrexham. The city is served by the M53 that heads northwest to Liverpool, while the M56 lies to the north of town, and the A55 heads all the way across North Wales to Anglesey and terminates in Holyhead. There are also good road links to nearby towns such as Sandbach, Nantwich, Northwich, Crewe and Widnes. Both Liverpool and Manchester airports are within striking distance, and there are frequent trains to each city; while there are direct services to London that take just a couple of hours.
The city plays host to the University of Chester, while parents of younger children have a range of excellent schools to consider. Highly rated primary options include Tattenhall Park, Mickle Trafford and Mill View, while the King’s School, Queen’s School and Tarporley High School and Sixth Form College are among the notable secondary options.
