It’s thought that settlement in Fareham’s local area stretches back to Roman times, while the town’s documented history dates back to the Norman era. Fareham was notable as a manufacturer of bricks, which were used to build the Royal Albert Hall in London, and also has a strong background in growing strawberries. There are plenty of modern amenities across the town, not least the Fareham Shopping Centre, which has around a hundred shops.
The town is well connected when it comes to transport, with the M27 motorway passing to the north of town and the M3 and A3(M) both close by. Fareham lies in between Portsmouth and Southampton, with trains to the former taking around 25 minutes and to the latter just over 30 minutes. London’s Waterloo station meanwhile can be reached in an hour and 40 minutes.
There are some excellent schools in the local area for families to consider, including Harrison Primary, Red Barn Primary and Crofton Hammond Junior for younger children. Crofton School, Baycroft School and Henry Cort Community College on Hillson Drive are among the secondary options.
