The local area

One of the English home counties, Berkshire is a place with plenty of history. Home to Windsor Castle, it’s also been granted with Royal status. The county is divided into two quite distinct sections either side of a north to south line which runs through the heart of Reading. There’s lots of beautiful countryside to explore in the region, ideal if you love spending time in the great outdoors, while there are also vibrant towns such as Reading to spend time in.

Berkshire is a relatively rural county, connected by a small number of A roads and a range of quieter roads. The M4 motorway does run through the county though, which provides access to Bristol in the east and London in the west. It’s fairly straightforward to get to local towns such as Bracknell, Maidenhead and Newbury. There’s a good rail network with plenty of stations across the towns and villages, while Heathrow Airport is conveniently located for much of the county.

There are plenty of excellent schools across Berkshire, with places such as Reading, Slough, Windsor and Wokingham all boasting a selection of highly rated options. If you’re looking for higher education facilities, there’s a great university in Reading to make use of.
