The local area
Cheshire shares its border with Merseyside and Greater Manchester to the north, Derbyshire to the east, Staffordshire and Shropshire to the south and Wales to the west. There’s plenty of history to discover across the county, as well as an array of landmarks, sights and attractions to explore. From Chester Cathedral to Beeston Castle and swathes of beautiful countryside, there’s lots to see and do in Cheshire.
Cheshire has close links with Manchester and Liverpool, and both cities aren’t far away. Well connected by road and rail, the two major North West cities complement the smaller and perhaps more charming Chester with its lovely high street. The M56 passes to the north of Cheshire, while the M6 runs to the east, connected its towns and villages to the national motorway network. The towns of Nantwich and Sandbach are only a short drive away.
There are lots of good schools across the county for children of all ages, with every major town and village in Cheshire offering at least primary education facilities. Notable Cheshire secondary schools include Alsager School, Brine Leas High in Nantwich and Queen’s Park High in Chester. For higher education, there are three universities in Cheshire, the University of Chester, the Crewe campus of Manchester Metropolitan and the Chester campus of the University of Law.
