The local area

Huntingdon was founded by the Anglo-Saxons and the Danes, and was granted its charter by King John in 1205. Famous for being the birthplace of Oliver Cromwell, Huntingdon sits on the north banks of the River Great Ouse and has a well-preserved medieval bridge which was valuable for trade in years gone by. The modern town maintains a rural charm, and there’s plenty of lovely countryside in the surrounding area to explore, particularly along the river.

Huntingdon is still well connected when it comes to transport though, with the A1 passing just to the west of town, and Cambridge less than 20 miles away, while St Neots is a fairly short drive away.. There are rail services to London King’s Cross which take under 50 minutes, making Huntingdon a viable option if you’re looking to commute to the capital.

There are some excellent schools in the local area too, which will please families with children. Options at primary level include Spaldwick Primary, Bury CofE and Huntingdon Primary on Ambury Road. Hinchingbrooke School, St Peter’s School and Sawtry Community College are all secondary schools which provide education up to the age of 18.
