The local area

Mentioned as Epinga in the Domesday Book of 1086, Epping was granted a weekly market by King Henry III in 1253, which helped to establish the town as a centre for trade. Considerable development had taken place by the early 19th century, but Epping still retains a rural feel, despite being the terminus for the London Underground’s Central line. Surrounded by Epping Forest and working farmland, Epping is a lovely place to live, and has plenty of modern amenities such as shops, bars and restaurants to satisfy the locals.

The fabulous access to London is a huge draw for many who choose to live in Epping, with direct tube services taking around 50 minutes to get all the way to Oxford Circus in Central London. The M25 motorway passes to the south of Epping, while the M11 is relatively close by to the east, giving the town incredible road access to nearby towns such as Harlow and Chingford. When you want to go on holiday, Stansted Airport is just over 15 miles away, and can be reached in less than half an hour by car.

There are some very good schools in the area for families to take into account, including Ivy Chimneys Primary, Epping Primary and Epping Upland CofE at primary level. The only secondary school in the town itself is Epping St John’s, although there’s a number of alternatives in nearby Loughton, including Debden Park High and Epping Forest College.
