Essential info

The local authority responsible for properties is Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council

The early history of Rotherham dates back to the Iron Age and Roman times, while the town itself was founded early in the Middle Ages. The coal industry brought expansion to the area during the Industrial Revolution, while the region has also always relied on its iron ore. There are a range of sights and attractions in town, including the 15th century Rotherham Minster church, the Magna Science Adventure Centre and Clifton House with its museum.

Rotherham lies less than seven miles from Sheffield, which can be easily reached by the A6109 road. The M1 motorway passes to the west and south of town, offering access to Leeds in the north and London in the south, while the M18 also lies to the east of Rotherham. It’s fairly easy to get to other local towns, such as Barnsley, Doncaster, Pontefract and Wakefield. A train to Sheffield can take just over 10 minutes, while Leeds is just over an hour’s journey and London King Cross can be reached in two and a quarter hours.

There are plenty of schools in the area for parents with children to consider, including Oakwood High, Wath Comprehensive and the Willows School in Thurcroft. Options for younger children include St Alban’s C of E, Brinsworth Manor and Whiston Worry Goose Junior and Infant School on Hall Close Avenue. Further education options include Thomas Rotherham College, Dearne Valley College and Rotherham College of Arts and Technology.
