The local area
Developed as a town by the Saxons, Otley was granted a market charter in 1222, and holds a market three times a week to this day, with a farmer’s market on the last Sunday of every month too. Sitting on the A660 road, the town is less than 12 miles to Leeds by car, and it’s also a fairly short drive to other local towns such as Ilkley, Bingley and Pudsey.
The drive into the centre of Leeds takes around half an hour depending on traffic, with regular buses running the route. Otley doesn’t have its own train station, with the nearest one found in Menston a couple of miles away. From here, it’s around 20 minutes to Leeds. What it lacks in rail services, Otley makes up for in its proximity to Leeds Bradford Airport, which is only a few miles away and just ten minutes by car.
There are some highly rated schools in the local area for families with children to consider, including All Saints CofE and Westgate Primary. For older students, Prince Henry’s Grammar School is a historic secondary school which has a sixth form attached to it. Despite its name, the school is a state-funded academy school, and has around 1,400 pupils.
