The local area

With a mention of the town’s priest in the Domesday Book of 1086, Wellington has had a church on the site of the modern day All Saints Church for over a thousand years. The town was granted a market charter in 1244, and this tradition is carried on to this day. There are plenty of attractions in the local area, particularly if you enjoy spending time outdoors, including the Wrekin, a hill which rises more than 400 metres above the Shropshire Plain.

Wellington is less than five miles away from Telford, which is a quick drive or just over five minutes on the train. The town is well connected when it comes to roads, with the M54 passing just to the south. Over to the west, Shrewsbury is just over ten miles away, and can be reached in less than 15 minutes by train. When it’s time to go on holiday, the nearest major airport is Birmingham’s, which is around 50 miles away.

There are plenty of schools for families with children to choose between in the local area, including Wrekin View Primary and Short Wood Primary. Ercall Wood Technology College and Wrekin College are among the options at secondary level, while Telford College of Arts and Technology and New College Telford provide further education in the area.
