The local area

With human settlement in the area believed to stretch back to around 1000 BC, the town of Malvern was founded in the 11th century, when a priory was established on the highest peak of the Malvern Hills by Benedictine monks. The hills’ spring water led to the town’s growth in the 19th century as a spa destination, while the modern town still makes the most of the beautiful natural scenery, perfect if you love spending time in the countryside.

A relatively rural town, there are two local train stations, Great Malvern and Malvern Link. Services to Worcester take less than ten minutes, while it’s 40 minutes to Cheltenham, 50 minutes to Gloucester and two and a half hours to London Paddington with a direct train. The A449 is the main road which runs through Malvern, with the M5 passing to the east of town and the M50 to the south. When you want to go on holiday, the nearest major airport is Birmingham which is just over 40 miles away by car.

There are some excellent schools in the local area for families with children to consider, including Malvern Parish CofE, St James’ CofE, Malvern Wyche CofE and Somers Park at primary level. The Chase School caters for children aged 11 to 18 and specialises in technology, languages and science, while Dyson Perrins CofE is a specialist sports college.
