The local area

Halesowen was historically a detached part of Shropshire, but after a spell as part of Worcestershire was taken under the banner of the West Midlands in the local government reorganisation of 1974. Despite being predominantly suburban, Halesowen offers wonderful access to green belt countryside that includes the Clent Hills.

The town also offers close proximity to Birmingham, which lies around 7 miles to the northeast. Halesowen no longer has its own train station, but is well served by buses on the Hagley Road Bus Corridor from Birmingham to Stourbridge. The M5 motorway passes to the east of town, which runs south as far as Bristol and Exeter, and connects Halesowen to London via the M42 and M40. Birmingham Airport is less than 30 miles away by road.

There are some excellent schools in the area for parents with young children to consider, including Lutley Primary, Our Lady and St Kenelm RC School and Hurst Green Primary on Narrow Lane. For children of secondary age Windsor High School and Sixth Form, Leasowes High and Earls High are among the choices. Halesowen provides further education along with Windsor High.
