The local area

Although there was a Roman road that ran through the spot where Burton now lies, the town mainly grew up around Burton Abbey, which was refounded as a Benedictine abbey at the beginning of the 11th century. Burton has a strong history in brewing and exporting beer, while the town has plenty of modern amenities that complement the Thursday market that has been taking place for over 800 years.

Burton offers a close proximity to Birmingham with strong transport links that make it a viable commuter town for those preferring to live in a quieter area. A train to Birmingham New Street takes less than half an hour, while it is little over 10 minutes to get to Derby. The M1 motorway passes to the east of town, linking Burton with Sheffield and Leeds in the north and London in the south. East Midlands Airport is less than 20 miles away, while Birmingham Airport is approximately 10 miles further away. It’s also fairly easy to get to local towns such as Lichfield and Tamworth.

There are some excellent school in the area for parents of younger children to take into account, such as Shobnall Primary, Richard Crosse CofE and All Saints CofE in nearby Alrewas. Options at secondary level include John Taylor High School, Abbot Beyne School and Paulet High School in Stapenhill.
