Essential info

The local authority responsible for properties is Cornwall Council

The local area

Redruth grew from its origins as a small market town in the 18th century, when the local area’s copper became very much in demand, due to its use in the production of brass. The town rapidly became one of Britain’s biggest and richest mining areas, and it wasn’t until the end of the 20th century that Cornwall’s last fully operational mine between Redruth and Cambourne was finally closed.

As well as an array of modern amenities and fabulous access to the striking southwest coast of England, Redruth is an important transport hub within Cornwall. The A30 road passes to the north of town, providing access to Penzance and Land’s End in the southwest, as well as a route out of the county in the opposite direction, while it’s possible to drive on to St. Ives, Truro and Newquay. Redruth’s train station offers direct services to London Paddington, although it’ll take at least four and a half hours to reach the English capital.

There’s a range of schools in the town for families with children to consider, including Pennoweth Primary, Treleigh Primary and Treloweth Primary. For older pupils, the local secondary school is Redruth School, which is a specialist Technology College that has a sixth form attached.
