The local area

Paignton comes from humble origins as a small fishing village, before the area grew during the 19th century with the construction of a new harbour. The town still relies heavily on tourism, with 240m Paignton Pier dominating the main seafront area. Not only does Paignton offer a pretty seaside setting, but it is also surrounded by swathes of lovely countryside and is close to Dartmoor National Park, in addition to neighbouring Torquay.

The location of Paignton on the southwest English coast means that it is hardly a major transport hub, although the M5 motorway is relatively close by, and can be reached by taking the A380 north. The A38 heads west to Plymouth, while a short drive along the seafront Torbay Road will quickly bring you to Torquay. Trains to Exeter take around 40 minutes, while it’s less than 5 minutes to hop over to Torquay and London can be reached in just under 3 hours.

There is a decent selection of schools in the area for families with children to consider, with primary options including Roselands Primary on Lynmouth Avenue, Hayes School and Oldway Primary. Torbay School on Torquay Road and Tower House School are among the secondary choices, while South Devon College provides further education facilities.
