The local area

The area that Worthing lies in has been populated for some 6,000-plus years thanks to the presence of flint; there is the greatest concentration of Stone Age flint mines in Britain. The beautiful South Downs National Park is right on Worthing’s doorstep, meaning that lovely countryside can be enjoyed in addition to the seafront setting. Worthing is constantly evolving along with other south coast spots, and is a great alternative to the more hectic – and more expensive – Brighton.

There are strong transport links in place for hopping over to Brighton, with regular trains taking just over 20 minutes. London meanwhile can be reached in around an hour and 20 minutes. The A24 road heads north towards the M25 and the capital, with the A27 heading west towards Chichester and Portsmouth and east to Brighton and Eastbourne. There are direct rail services that take around 45 minutes to reach Gatwick Airport.

There are some highly rated schools in the area for families with children to consider, with Broadwater CofE, Thomas A Beckett Middle School and the Orchards Community Middle School among the options for younger children. Secondary choices include Davison CofE High School for Girls, Durrington High School and At Andrew’s High School for Boys on Sackville Road.
