Local statistics
The average house price in the Windsor and Maidenhead borough is £476,173, while in Windsor itself the overall average sale price during the last year was significantly higher than this at £542,525. Terraced properties were involved in the most sales during this period, going for an average of £553,143, while flats sold for £328,987 and semi-detached houses fetched £542,405.
The local area
Windsor has long been associated with people of high status and royalty, initially because of its great access to woodland areas which served up opportunities for hunting. Windsor Castle was originally built in the 11th century, and remains a royal residence to this day. This makes the town a popular tourist attraction, but also affords the area a huge amount of status which contributes to the strength of the property market.
Also contributing to this are the transport links that Windsor offers. There are trains to the capital’s Paddington station which take less than 40 minutes, making Windsor a fantastic place to live if you’re looking to commute. What’s more, the town has great access to the M4 and M25 motorways, and Heathrow Airport is less than ten miles away by car. There is reasonable access to other regional towns such as Slough, Wokingham, Reading and Newbury.
If you have children to think of, Windsor operates a three-tier education system. There are more than ten first schools to choose between, including St Edward’s, Braywood CofE and Hilltop First School. St Edward’s Royal Free Ecumenical Middle School, St Peter’s CofE and Dedworth Middle School are among the options at the next stage, with the Windsor Boys’ School and Windsor Girls’ School providing education for pupils up to the age of 18. Local independent schools include Brigidine School and Eton College.
