The local area

There’s been a crossing of the River Thames at Staines since back in Roman times, when a first bridge was constructed across the water. This gave the settlement the name of ‘Pontes’, which is the Latin word for bridges and suggest that there was more than one crossing in the area. Historically part of Middlesex, Staines lies just within the western bounds of the M25 motorway, and also has great access to London as part of the capital’s commuter belt.

There are trains to London Waterloo station which take around 40 minutes from Staines, making it a great place to live if you want to work in the capital. As well as having great access for the M25, the town is close to other motorways like the M3, M4 and M40. Popular towns like Woking, Slough and Windsor are only a fairly short drive away. It also has a fabulous location close to Heathrow Airport, which is perfect for when you want to go on holiday.

There are plenty of schools for families with children to choose between in the local area, including Our Lady of the Rosary RC Primary, Wraysbury Primary and Hythe Primary. The Magna Carta School and Matthew Arnold School look after older pupils aged between 11 and 16, with Brooklands College in nearby Ashford the closest place you can go for further education.
