The local area

Littlehampton has been settled since prehistoric times, while the Romans also had a presence in the area and the town was mentioned as a small hamlet in the Domesday Book of 1086. The town grew from being a small fishing community into a popular holiday destination, particularly when the railways arrived in the 19th century. The modern town still draws tourists, while offering plenty of green spaces to residents to complement the attraction of the seaside; the lovely South Downs National Park is also on Littlehampton’s doorstep.

The town lies on the A259 road which heads west to Bognor Regis and east to Worthing and Brighton, while the A27 runs to the north of town and provides access to other areas of the south coast; the A27 also connects to the A24, which heads north towards the M25 motorway and London. Trains to lively neighbour Brighton take around 45 minutes, while it’s an extra hour to get to London.

There is a good range of schools in the area for families with children to take a look at, with primary options including Summerlea Primary, Rustington Primary and St Margaret’s CofE on Arundel Road. Cornfield School, the Littlehampton Academy and the Links College South are among the choices at secondary level.
