the local area

Haywards Heath is mentioned in records of the English Civil War, while it was the arrival of the London & Brighton Railway in 1841 which brought significant growth to the town. The expansion of Bolnore Village to the southwest of town has led to more expansion in recent years, in part dealing with Haywards Heath’s increasing popularity as a commuter town to London.

The English capital is only around 35 miles north of Haywards Heath, and there are trains to the capital’s Victoria and London Bridge stations which take less than 50 minutes. Brighton meanwhile is less than 15 miles to the south, with trains taking just 15 minutes to reach the popular seaside town. Haywards Heath is a great place to commute from, particularly for workers at Gatwick Airport which is just over ten minutes away by train, and also hugely convenient for when you want to go on holiday. Nearby towns such as Burgess Hill and Crawley are fairly easy to get to.

There are some excellent schools in and around Haywards Heath, making it a great place to live for families with children. Options at primary level include St Peter’s CofE, Danehill CofE and Handcross Primary, while local secondary schools include Warden Park School and Oathall Community College. Great Walstead School is a day and weekly boarding school for both boys and girls aged between two and 13.
