The local area

Evidence has been found of Roman buildings in Havant’s local area, along with neolithic and mesolithic remains. In the tenth century the town was known as Hamafunta, meaning the spring of Hama, in a nod to the spring southwest of St Faith’s churchyard. Water has long played an important part in the town’s history, thanks to its many water mills, parchment manufacture and brewing. The modern town has plenty of amenities to cater for its residents, along with great access to the beautiful English south coast and the South Downs National Park.

Havant is well connected on the south coast, with the A27 running through the southern part of town, heading to Chichester and Brighton in the east and Portsmouth and the M27 to the west. The M3 can be picked up by Southampton, while the A3(M) begins on the outskirts of Havant. Local train services take around 20 minutes to Portsmouth, 45 minutes to Southampton and an hour to Brighton.

There’s a good range of schools in the area for families with children to choose between, including St Alban’s CofE, Warren Park Primary and Bosmere Junior School for younger children. Park Community School is one of the best secondary schools around, while other options include Warblington School, Prospect School and Havant Academy. If you’re looking for further education facilities, Havant College looks after students aged 16 and upwards.
