The town is of course renowned for its history that counts the iconic Battle of Hastings in 1066 among its chapters, which was actually fought at the modern town of Battle some 7 miles northwest of Hastings. The arrival of the railways during the 19th century brought popularity to Hastings as a seaside holiday destination, which also drove up the population numbers. The modern town has modern amenities such as the Priory Meadow shopping centre that complement the pleasant ambience of the Old Town area.
There are also some excellent schools that will please parents of young children; options at primary level include Sacred Heart Catholic Primary, Main Road’s Westfield School and Blacklands Primary. The Hastings Academy on Rye Road and William Parker Sports College on Parkstone Road are among the choices at secondary level.
The location of Hasting’s on the south coast means that A roads will be your best friend when it comes to getting around other parts of the region; the A259 heads east towards Folkestone and on to Ipswich, and heading west towards Eastbourne, where it becomes the A27 and continues on to Brighton and Portsmouth. Local town Bexhill is only a short drive away. The A21 meanwhile heads north towards London and the M25 motorway. There are trains to the capital that take around an hour and a half.
