The local area

Godalming’s history dates back to Saxon times, and the town grew in size due to its position roughly halfway between Portsmouth and London. The town was granted a weekly market at the start of the 14th century, which along with its links to the woollen cloth industry meant Godalming was a prosperous place to live. This is still the case today, with Godalming upholding its reputation as an upmarket and picturesque town with great access to London.

The capital is only around 30 miles away, and Waterloo station can be reached in just 45 minutes by train. The A3 road passes to the west of town and can be used to head northeast towards Guildford and on to the M25 and London. If you want to go on holiday, both Heathrow and Gatwick Airport are around 30 miles away from town.

There are some excellent schools in the local area if you’re looking for options for your children. St Edmund’s and Busbridge CofE are both highly rated primary schools, while Godalming Junior School and The Chandler CofE also provide education for younger children. Broadwater School and Rodborough Technology College are the choices when it comes to state secondary schools, while Charterhouse School is a prestigious public school and Godalming College provides further education facilities.
