The local area

Eastleigh sits on an old Roman road which was built in 79 AD, and as well as evidence of Roman settlement in the area a Saxon village called East Leah was recorded in the tenth century. The town’s airfield was the site of the famous Spitfire’s first flight, while the modern town has a range of amenities including the Swan Shopping Centre, which also offers leisure facilities.

The city of Southampton is less than five miles south of Eastleigh, and can be reached in just over ten minutes by train. The town has great access to the M3 motorway, which can be used to get to the M27 motorway to the south and London to the northeast. Local towns such as Andover are easy to reach by car. If you want to take a train to the capital the journey takes around an hour and 20 minutes, while Southampton Airport is in Eastleigh for when you want to go on holiday.

There are some very good schools in the area for families with children to choose between, including Norwood Primary, Cherbourg Primary and Shakespeare Junior for younger children. Thornden School, Lakeside School and Crestwood College on Shakespeare Road are among the secondary options, while Eastleigh College provides further education facilities in the town.
