The local area
Sitting on the South East coast of England, Deal has a rich maritime history. With links to Julius Caesar and Captain James Cook, there are several museums where you can explore the town’s storied past, as well as at Deal Castle and Walmer Castle. The town’s a great place to live if you love being outdoors, with lots of beautiful countryside to enjoy in the local area, including the Kent Downs, as well as the pretty coastline.
Deal is less than ten miles away from Dover, and the popular ferry port can be reached in around 20 minutes via the A258, and even quicker by train. If you need to get to London, it’s around an hour and 20 minute journey to the capital’s St Pancras station. The nearest motorway is the M20, which begins on the outskirts of Folkestone around 16 miles away from Deal, while the French coast is only 25 miles away across the English Channel, and can be seen on a clear day.
There are some good schools in the area to send your children to, with primary options including Deal Parochial CofE, The Downs CofE, Sholden CofE and Sandown School. Castle Community College on Mill Road, Walmer Science College and the Brewood Education Centre provide secondary education facilities.
