The local area

The history of the Dartford area stretches back some 250,000 years, and encompasses the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. The Romans held a presence due to the requirement to cross the River Derwent by ford in the area, which is when the town’s name comes from. Modern Dartford is a bustling place equipped with plenty of amenities, while the colossal Bluewater shopping centre is a short drive away.

Also a short distance away is London, which makes Dartford an extremely popular commuter town. The capital can be reached in as little as 40 minutes by train, and there are plenty of services to accommodate workers making the journey. The M25 motorway takes a break as it passes Dartford, briefly becoming the A282 and connecting the town with the London ring road, while Heathrow and Gatwick Airport are both approximately 35 mile journeys by road. Nearby towns such as Orpington, Gravesend and Bromley are also easily accessible.

There are a number of good schools in the area for families with children to take into account, including Fleetdown Primary, St Paulinus C of E and West Hill Primary for younger children. For those of secondary age Dartford Grammar, Dartford Grammar for Girls and the Leigh Technology Academy on Green Street Green Road are among the options.
