The local area
In recent years Whitehaven’s harbour has seen lots of regeneration, making the picturesque town an attractive place to live. It’s the perfect spot if you love exploring the great outdoors, with not only the coastal scenery to take in but the beautiful Lake District and on to Kendal.
Due to its far flung position on the English coast midway between Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness, you’re not going to expect Whitehaven to have the greatest transport links. It’s a long way to the nearest airport, while the only major road nearby is the A595 which runs north to south along the coastline. The town does have its own train station though, with services to Carlisle taking just over an hour. It’s a bit longer to get to Barrow-in-Furness.
There are some highly rated schools in the local area for families with children to choose between, with primary options including St Bridget’s CofE, Jericho Primary and St Mary’s Catholic Primary. Whitehaven School and St Benedict’s Catholic High School are the secondary options, while Mayfield School is a special educational needs school for pupils aged from three to 19.
