The local area

With a history that stretches back to Saxon times when the town was known as Sanbec, Sandbach was a big enough settlement at the time of the Domesday Book of 1086 that it had a church. The town has been a market town since it was granted a royal charter in 1579, while the Sandbach Crosses remain a feature to this day, a pair of ninth century Anglo-Saxon crosses which now stand in the market place. If you enjoy walking, hiking or mountain biking, the Peak District is just a short distance from Sandbach.

The town has a great location not far from the M6 motorway, which can be used to head towards Manchester in the north and Stoke, Stafford and Birmingham to the south. Trains from Sandbach station take around 40 minutes to get to Manchester, while it’s the same length of time to Stoke and just ten minutes to Crewe. When you want to go on holiday, Manchester Airport is less than 30 miles from Sandbach.

There’s a good choice of schools in the local area if you have children to think of, with primary options including Sandbach Community Primary, Offley Primary and Sandbach Heath St John’s CofE. At secondary level, Sandbach School and Sandbach High provide education to boys and girls respectively, while both schools have mixed sixth forms.
