Essential info

The local authority responsible for properties is Chorley City Council

The local area

Although there’s evidence of Bronze Age settlement in the area, it’s thought that Chorley wasn’t occupied properly until the Middle Ages. The town saw lots of expansion as part of the Industrial Revolution, when it made most of its money from the cotton industry. Most of the factories that once dominated the skyline have now been demolished, while the town centre has seen plenty of redevelopment over recent years and has lots of modern amenities.

Chorley has a good location in the northwest of England, less than 20 miles from Manchester and close to Wigan, Blackburn, Bolton and Preston. Trains to Manchester take just over half an hour, while the M61 passes to the east of town and provides easy access to Chorley’s larger neighbour. The M6 and M65 motorways are also close by, while Manchester Airport and Liverpool John Lennon Airport near Liverpool can both be reached in around 50 minutes by car.

For families with children there are some great schools in the local area, with primary options including Astley Park, Chorley St. Peter’s CofE and Sacred Heart Catholic Primary. St. Michael’s CofE, Holy Cross Catholic High and Southlands High on Clover Road are among the choices at secondary level. If you’re looking for higher education facilities, Manchester’s universities are a short distance away, while the University of Central Lancashire is in Preston.
