Essential info

The local authority responsible for properties is Bury Council

The local area

Bury is famous for its open-air market, which first started back in 1444, and is renowned for its black pudding stalls. The town saw huge amounts of growth during the Industrial Revolution, thanks to its importance as a mill town manufacturing textiles. Nowadays, residents can take advantage of the large modern shopping area that was opened in 2010 around the Rock, while other attractions include a multi-screen cinema and bowling alley.

Bury has a strong location within the North West, around eight miles from Manchester and midway between Bolton and Rochdale. The Metrolink tram system connects Bury to many different parts of Greater Manchester, and provides easy access to Manchester’s city centre. The M66 motorway passes just to the east of town, linking up to the M60 ring road, as well as the M62 which heads east towards Leeds. There’s also great access to local towns such as Oldham, Rochdale and Salford.

There are some excellent schools in the area for families to consider, including Ramsbottom Stubbins, Holly Mount, Hazlehurst and Lowercroft for children of primary age. For older children, the options include St Gabriel’s, Woodhey High, Bury CofE High and Bury Grammar, which has separate sites for boys and girls. Bury College also provides further education facilities.
