The local area

Hatfield’s history dates back to Saxon times, when it was originally known as Hatfelle. The town grew up around the historic Hatfield House, which was once home to Elizabeth Tudor and nowadays is known as the Old Palace. With a strong heritage in the aerospace industry, Hatfield was designated a New Town in 1946, and has seen plenty of development in the years since.

Found just 20 miles north of London, Hatfield is a great place to live if you want to commute to the English capital. Trains to Kings Cross station take just over half an hour, while it’s around 45 minutes to Moorgate. The A1(M) motorway passes to the west of town, heading south to London and north to Stevenage, Peterborough and the north of England. When you want to go on holiday, Stansted Airport is less than 30 miles away from Hatfield.

There are plenty of schools in the local area for families with children to take into consideration, including The Ryde School, St Phillip Howard Catholic School and Green Lanes at primary level. Secondary options include Chancellor’s School, Queenswood School and Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School on Woods Avenue.
