Buying a house in Essex

Essex is a large county in the south east of England, bordering both the capital and the English Channel. It’s home to some 1.46 million residents, and is treasured for its quaint towns, beautiful countryside and fast access to London in equal measure. It’s these factors that mean there’s such a hot property market in the area, with a delightful variation in homes for your consideration. At My Home Move Conveyancing, we’ve been growing our expertise in property market’s like Essex’s since 2001.

If you’d like to buy or sell a home in Essex, you’re going to need to appoint property lawyers. They’ll look after all the legal parts of your purchase or sale on your behalf.

At My Home Move Conveyancing, we’re proud to bring all our clients an award winning level of customer service. As soon as we get to work on your case, you’ll be assigned a dedicated conveyancer, who’ll act as your point of contact for the duration. You’re welcome to contact them whenever you need, and they’ll always been in touch as soon as anything changes. What’s more, you can keep an eye on progress from an online account you have access to, at a time and in a place that’s best for you.

We’re delighted to offer our conveyancing service in Essex to homebuyers across the region, from the city of Chelmsford to other popular spots like Braintree and Colchester.

Local statistics

Over the last 12 months, a property in Essex sold for £359,066 on average, but there was great variation across the county. The most expensive spot was Stock, where homes fetched an average of £1,026,626, compared with the cheapest area Jaywick at £132,473.

Essential info

The local authority responsible for property across the region is Essex County Council. They can be contacted through their website, or at the following address:

Essex County Council
County Hall
Market Road
Chelmsford
CM1 1QH

Further powers are devolved to 14 district councils across the county of Essex. As they’re able to collect their own taxes, council tax rates will vary across Essex and depend on where exactly you live.

The local area

One of the famous ‘home counties’, Essex is an incredibly desirable place to live. And with an English Channel coastline, swathes of beautiful countryside and only a short journey into central London, it’s not hard to see why. The region hosts England’s oldest recorded town, Colchester, in contrast to the likes of Harlow and Basildon which are new towns – built entirely in the last century. Natural landmarks include Epping Forest and Dengie National Nature Reserve, while there’s plenty of culture and nightlife to enjoy in spots like Chelmsford.

As with much of the south east, the region is well served for both public and private transportation. A network of A-roads connect the county’s major towns such as Billericay, Epping and Grays, while London’s orbital M25 motorway runs to its southwestern border, and the M11 passes through north-to-south. Greater Anglia rail services operate throughout the region, connecting towns like Braintree and Colchester to the capital or out towards Ipswich. The largest airport inside the region is London Stanstead Airport, which offers flights across Europe and beyond.

There’s certainly no shortage of schools in the region either, with some 90 state secondary schools to choose from. Higher education in the area is provided by the University of Essex’s several campuses, among many smaller college options in built-up areas.
